The combustion method was originally created in 1848 by Dumas. In the Dumas method, a sample is burned in an oxygen rich atmosphere at high temperatures and the resulting gases are analyzed. Now, C. Gerhardt, being the market leaders for Kjeldahl analysis, can also offer a highly efficient instrument named DUMATHERM. By using the Dumas method, the new technique offers a fast and comfortable alternative to classical systems.
The clever design of the DUMATHERM’s furnace chamber in combination with the direct analysis of all resulting gases provides the user with results in 2-3 minutes. Thanks to the construction of the instrument, the DUMATHERM has hardly any wear and tear parts, which reduces costs for service.
The Dumas method serves as a more precise and efficient alternative to
Kjeldahl. In the food market total Kjeldahl nitrogen methodology is used for
protein determination. Digestion, distillation and titration can take up to 1.5 to 2 hours. With Dumatherm, protein analysis time can be reduced to 2.5 minutes. This translates into a 98% time savings as compared to Kjeldahl. Precision is also increased.
